About the Department
The Department of Higher Education looks after education at +2 (Junior college),
+3 (Degree College) and Post Graduation (University) levels. It is responsible for
establishment of new institution, startup of new wings, streams and subjects in
already established institutions. Orissa Education Act 1969 & Rules framed there
under is the guiding law for the department.
Directorate of Higher Education, Council of Higher Secondary Education (+2 Council),
Regional Directorates of Education (three at Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Berhampur),
Orissa State Bureau of Text Book Preparation & Production are subordinate and autonomous
bodies functioning under the department. State Education Tribunal established under
Sec 24 B of OE Act 1969 an office under the Dept. through its preceding officer
functioning independently in judicial capacity.
